Glossary of Printing Terms
Bleed
The area beyond the trim edge of your design that ensures ink runs to the edge after trimming. Typically 0.125" on all sides.
CMYK
Stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black — the color mode used for full-color printing.
DPI
Dots Per Inch – measures print resolution. 300 DPI is standard for high-quality print.
Die Cut
A process that cuts paper into custom shapes using a steel blade. Often used for stickers, folders, or custom packaging.
Embed
Including images or fonts directly in the file so nothing goes missing when printing.
Outline Fonts
Converting text to vector shapes so they appear correctly even without the original font installed.
Safe Zone
All text and critical elements should stay within this area to avoid being trimmed off — typically 0.25" inside the final size.
Trim Size
The final dimensions of your printed piece after cutting.
Vector
A type of graphic made of paths (not pixels), which allows it to scale infinitely without losing quality.
